Category 1 (C): Training for licensed asbestos work
This training is for employees of licensed asbestos companies. It covers the training modules set out in Chapter 4, of HSG247, 'Asbestos: the licensed contractors guide' and the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) L143, Reg 10 (Paras 132 - 137). This training has a validity of one year.
New Operative Course
This three day course for new operatives combines classroom training with hands on practical work in a purpose built facility. The course provides trainees with the underpinning knowledge and skills to work as an asbestos removal operative.

New Supervisor Course
This three day course is designed to cover the key areas of knowledge and competence required of a new supervisor. The course is a mix of classroom theory and practical sessions. Trainees are expected to be experienced operatives and have previously attended asbestos operative training.

Operative Refresher Course
This is a one day practical and classroom based course that covers updates to legislation and best practice for asbestos removal operatives who have already attended the new operative course. The course is designed to reinforce competences gained on previous courses and in the workplace and to further develop skills and knowledge. Please note that this course is flexible in terms of content and may change on the day to emphasise specific learning requirements of operatives identified in the training need analysis (TNA).

Supervisor Refresher Course
This is a one day practical and classroom based course that covers updates to legislation and best practice for asbestos removal supervisors who have already attended the new supervisor course. The course is designed to reinforce competences gained on previous courses and in the workplace and to further develop skills and knowledge. Please note that this course is flexible in terms of content and may change on the day to emphasise specific learning requirements of supervisors identified in the training needs analysis (TNA).

Management / Directors and SLHs Licensable Asbestos Removal Work
The management / director course is for two days minimum, the SLHs course is for two to four days (HSG 247 Chapter 4 duration of courses.) A training needs analysis form would be filled in prior to training to identify the delegates current knowledge / skill level this would then be used to plan the course so as not to repeat previous training and to determine the course duration and cost.
Category 2 (B): Training for non-licensable asbestos work
This training is for people who may carry out work with asbestos that does not require a license, e.g. maintenance workers and their supervisor but does not include basic awareness training. It incorporates the training requirements set out in the Approved Code Practice (ACoP) L143, Reg 10 (Paras 129 - 131) and HSG 210 'Asbestos Essentials Task Manual' This training has a validity of one year.
Non-Licensable Work with Asbestos
The course is aimed at those whose work will knowingly disturb asbestos. It is designed with theory and practical skills as outlined in HSG 210 Asbestos Essentials Task Manual and CAR 2006. All delegates who are to undertake training on Non-Licensable work with asbestos MUST have already completed an Asbestos Awareness course.
The TNA lists modules which can be used as a ‘pick and mix’ to ensure that the training course is tailored to the specific requirements of the work you will be carrying out. It is therefore important that you identify from the TNA which modules are essential to you.

Category 3 (A): Asbestos Awareness Course
This course is aimed at the construction industry and allied trades people who could potentially become exposed to asbestos .The course is designed to give the delegate a basic understanding of what asbestos is it’s health hazards ‘likely locations and what to do if it is come across .This training has a validity of one year.

Hazardous Waste Regulations
This is aimed at companies with a duty of care to comply with Hazardous waste Regulations in England and Wales and Specialist Waste Regulations in Scotland. This course is aimed at those who are responsible for managing any kind of hazardous waste. The trainer has many years experience with a leading waste management company.

Competent Person Courses
These courses are designed to meet the requirements of ACoP's which require a competent person to check and maintain plant and equipment. It is recommended that at least one employee within a licensed company receives adequate information, instruction and training to give them 'competent' status. Courses are designed to cover BS 8520.

Consolidation Of Training
Consolidation of training is a requirement of Chapter 4 of HSG 247 ( Asbestos: The Licensed Contractors Guide Stages 6&7).It is good practise to consolidate the skills and knowledge of your employees within a 3 month period after their training. DS Environmental can help you to comply by carrying out site audits.

Site Audit
DS Environmental supports our clients to build on good practice and stamp out bad by conducting site audits. We then produce an audit analysis to reinforce good working practices and to correct any bad ones. A quality control procedure is then utilised to improve health and safety. This service is charged on a day rate basis (8 normal working hours plus expenses).
